Constipation, kidney disease may be related


A new study found that Thursday, November 10, 2016 (HealthDay News) - constipation people are more likely to develop kidney disease.

According to researchers at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and the Memphis VA Medical Center, the findings suggest that it may be through the management of constipation to prevent or treat kidney problems.

They studied the medical records of 3.5 million US veterans with normal renal function. They were tracked from 2004 to 2006, and until 2013.
Those with constipation were 13% more likely to develop chronic kidney disease than those without constipation, and 9% had renal failure. Those who are more severe constipation risk even higher.

The study did not prove that constipation could lead to kidney disease or failure.
